GLOUCESTERSHIRE GP VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHEME
The Scheme is run as a joint enterprise between the Cheltenham and Gloucester sectors and is based on the town of Cheltenham and the city of Gloucester, which are eight miles apart. There is a choice of Training Practices throughout the County.
Half-Day Release Course
This takes place on Wednesday afternoons during academic terms in Cheltenham & Gloucester Postgraduate Medical Centres.
Additionally there are several special courses to enable the GP Registrar to complete requirements: Minor Surgery, Child Health, Palliative Care, Family Planning/STIF, nMRCGP The two-day Residential Courses are held in March and October.
The Scheme is organised to give as broad a base as possible in instruction in clinical subjects, and personal management. Practice organisation, liaison with other para-medical bodies, Social Services and similar ancillary services and visits to various establishments of medical interest are all included in the training programme.

Following the Regional Selection procedures, each GP Registrar will be allocated in rank order to their preferred choice of Vocational Training Scheme Rotation or Registrarship. There will be no local interviews.
